Is safety glass worth getting for my home?

Safety glass is a type of glass that is tougher to break and does not shatter on impact. You must install safety glass in areas of your home that are prone to accidents such as pool areas.

What’s the best type of glass to use for windows?

The best type of glass to use for windows varies- you may want a tinted glass for privacy, safety glass in areas of high risk, or annealed glass.

How is glass made?

Glass is made from melting minerals together at a high temperature and then pouring the liquid on top of tin metal to create a flat glass sheet.

How much/little impact does it take to smash glass?

Depending on the type of glass, not much at all. Windows, doors and other industrial types of glass will be made from strong safety glass and will take a significant amount of effort to break.

Best method for cleaning glass?

White vinegar and water is the most cost-effective and chemical-free way of cleaning glass – just mix one part vinegar to four parts water. Pour the solution into a spray bottle, and spray directly onto the glass. Then wipe it off using a microfibre cloth or newspaper. Once the liquid has been wiped off- buff with a dry microfibre cloth or newspaper.

How can I tell if a chipped windscreen can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced?

A chipped or cracked windscreen needs to be repaired/replaced if:

  • It has a hairline crack is longer than 30mm long
  • It has a bull’s eye crack is over 16mm in diameter
  • The crack is from the edge of the screen and is over 75mm long

What is the average life expectancy of my window?

Most windows will last between 10-30 years. You can protect your windows and maximise the life expectancy by:

  • Protecting the window from the elements
  • Not using a pressure washer to clean the windows
  • Avoiding condensation on windows (especially if the window has a wooden frame)
  • Choosing a high quality glass (i.e. annealed or safety glass)

What happens if you can’t find the right replacement screen?

Koala Glass will always try and source the right size replacement screen for you. If your car is older, it may be harder to source the screen.
